The official manifesto of Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the fatal shooting of healthcare executive Brian Thompson in New York City on Wednesday, December 4th, has been shared with multiple media outlets. While many outlets have chosen to publish excerpts selectively, we are providing the full text of Mangione's manifesto for complete transparency and to allow readers to form their own informed perspectives. Here is Luigi Mangione's complete manifesto:

"To the Feds, I'll keep this short, because I do respect what you do for our country. To save you a lengthy investigation, I state plainly that I wasn't working with anyone. This was fairly trivial: some elementary social engineering, basic CAD, a lot of patience. The spiral notebook, if present, has some straggling notes and To Do lists that illuminate the gist of it. My tech is pretty locked down because I work in engineering so probably not much info there. I do apologize for any strife of traumas but it had to be done. Frankly, these parasites simply had it coming. A reminder: the US has the #1 most expensive healthcare system in the world, yet we rank roughly #42 in life expectancy. United is the [indecipherable] largest company in the US by market cap, behind only Apple, Google, Walmart. It has grown and grown, but as our life expectancy? No the reality is, these [indecipherable] have simply gotten too powerful, and they continue to abuse our country for immense profit because the American public has allwed them to get away with it. Obviously the problem is more complex, but I do not have space, and frankly I do not pretend to be the most qualified person to lay out the full argument. But many have illuminated the corruption and greed (e.g.: Rosenthal, Moore), decades ago and the problems simply remain. It is not an issue of awareness at this point, but clearly power games at play. Evidently I am the first to face it with such brutal honesty."

Who is Luigi Mangione?

Mangione hails from a well-known Maryland family with deep ties to real estate development. His late grandfather, Nick Mangione, was a prominent figure in the industry, remembered for his successful ventures, including the acquisition of Turf Valley Resort in 1978. The luxury retreat and conference center outside Baltimore remains one of the family's most notable achievements.

The Mangione family expanded their real estate holdings by purchasing Hayfields Country Club north of Baltimore in 1986. On Monday, Baltimore County police officers cordoned off an entrance to the property, which public records show is linked to Luigi Mangione's parents. A crowd of reporters and photographers gathered outside an entrance, adding to the growing media attention surrounding the case.

Nick Mangione, the father of 10 children, prepared his five sons (including Luigi Mangione's father, Louis Mangione) to manage the family business, as noted in a 2003 Washington Post report. The obituary of Nick Mangione also revealed that he had 37 grandchildren, including Luigi.

Luigi Mangione's grandparents were known for their charitable contributions through the Mangione Family Foundation, according to a statement from Loyola University following the death of Nick Mangione's wife in 2023. Their donations supported various causes, including Catholic organizations, colleges, and the arts.

One of Luigi Mangione's cousins is Nino Mangione, a Republican state legislator in Maryland, as confirmed by a spokesperson for his office.

"Our family is shocked and devastated by Luigi's arrest," the Mangione family said in a statement posted on social media by Nino Mangione. "We offer our prayers to the family of Brian Thompson and we ask people to pray for all involved."

Mangione's Education and Work History

According to a spokesperson, Luigi Mangione, identified as the suspect in the recent tragedy, graduated as valedictorian from an elite Maryland prep school and later earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in computer science from the University of Pennsylvania in 2020. Mangione's background included a strong interest in gaming and game design, which he pursued by co-founding a gaming club at Penn, as highlighted in a 2018 article in Penn Today. Social media activity suggests he was a Phi Kappa Psi fraternity member and participated in a 2019 program at Stanford University. His posts also feature photos with family and friends at various destinations, including the Jersey Shore, Hawaii, San Diego, and Puerto Rico.

The Gilman School, where Luigi Mangione graduated as valedictorian in 2016, is one of Baltimore's most prestigious prep schools, known for educating the children of the city's affluent and notable figures, including Orioles legend Cal Ripken Jr. The school's distinguished alums include sportswriter Frank Deford and former Arizona Governor Fife Symington. During his valedictory address, Mangione praised his classmates for their "incredible courage to explore the unknown and try new things." Following high school, Mangione completed a software programming internship at Maryland-based video game studio Firaxis, where he worked on bug fixes for the popular strategy game Civilization 6, according to a LinkedIn profile. Firaxis' parent company, Take-Two Interactive, declined to comment on his tenure.

Luigi Mangione most recently worked for the car-buying website TrueCar, but his employment ended in 2023, as confirmed by the company's leadership. From January to June 2022, he resided at Surfbreak, a co-living space near Waikiki in Honolulu designed for remote workers. According to Josiah Ryan, spokesperson for the space's owner and founder, R.J. Martin, Mangione, like other residents, was required to undergo a background check before his stay.

"Luigi was just widely considered to be a great guy. There were no complaints," said Josiah Ryan, a spokesperson for Surfbreak's owner and founder, R.J. Martin. According to Ryan, Mangione struggled with severe back pain stemming from childhood, which impacted many aspects of his life, including his ability to surf. "He went surfing with R.J. once, but it didn't work out because of his back," Ryan added, noting that despite this, Mangione and Martin frequently visited a rock-climbing gym together.

According to Ryan, Mangione departed Surfbreak to undergo surgery on the mainland before eventually returning to Honolulu and renting an apartment. A social media account linked to Mangione featured an image that appeared to show an X-ray of a lower spine with a metal rod and multiple screws inserted, likely reflecting the extent of his medical procedure.

Martin noted that he lost contact with Mangione approximately six months to a year ago. Recent posts on an X account attributed to Mangione highlight his thoughts on various topics, including the detrimental effects of smartphones on children, the importance of healthy eating and exercise, psychological theories, and a quote from Indian philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti warning against being "well-adjusted to a profoundly sick society."

The tragic events surrounding Luigi Mangione's actions and his family's legacy highlight the deep divides within society, divides that are often fueled by unchecked privilege and a system that disproportionately benefits the wealthy elite. Despite his affluent background and access to opportunities, Mangione appears to have been caught in a cycle of personal distress and disillusionment. His story serves as a stark reminder of how systemic issues, from mental health care to income inequality, remain unaddressed by those in power. As the country grapples with the aftermath of this tragedy, it is crucial to focus on the broader social injustices that shape the lives of people like Mangione and to ensure that future generations do not find themselves trapped in similar, destructive circumstances.
